The Workshop

Your tutor, Dawn, is looking forward to meeting you and says: “I have been working with kiln formed glass for over 18 years, and teaching for 15 of those. I wanted to share my love for glass with as many people as possible and so I introduced ‘Glass On The Go’ – where I bring the creativity to you!

I believe passionately that everybody should have an opportunity to explore their inner artist. Getting creative is relaxing, mindful, great for your well-being, and you can make something beautiful in the process. I teach in a relaxed and organic way, showing you techniques, inspiring you with designs, but I encourage you to follow your own ideas.

During this evening workshop you can make either a postcard, two free-standing mini-waves or a handkerchief tea-light holder – just decide on the day!

All tools and equipment are provided and no glass cutting is involved, you just get to play with colourful accessory glass – the fun bit! Your creations are taken away to be fired in one of my specialist, digitally controlled glass kilns at my studio in Ilkeston, where I create my own unique glass art.

Your finished work will be returned to OCP at a later date (as arranged with Viv and Kate)”

Specific to this workshop:

  • It is essential that you wear closed shoes please, i.e. no sandals or flip-flops – you will be working with small pieces of glass clled frit.
  • No glass cutting is needed for these workshops; you work with pre-cut blanks and an assortment of colourful accessory glass to create your own designs, therefore there is minimal risk of cutting yourself. However, please bring plasters, if you have a known allergy to some makes of plasters. Glass frit has sharp edges and it is possible to gets little cuts from handling them. Dawn will give you a good safety briefing to ensure this risk is minimal.
  • Reading glasses if you need them.

We will be providing drinks and home-made biscuits.

We want you to go home with a spring in your step and feel really good about what you have achieved. To make sure we can thoroughly look after you during your workshop please fill in your booking form with all the things that will help, be it your favourite milk, or any extra support you may require. Please also let us know of allergies that we may need to highlight to your fellow crafters e.g. nuts, perfume. Many thanks.

How to get here

Our Crafty Place

1 Corporation Road
Ilkeston,DE7 4ASUnited Kingdom

Please be aware that there is no on-site parking and we are on quite a busy road. There are residential side roads near the building. We advise parking alongside the grassy area across the road off the main road (it is a small triangle of land which, if you are approaching us from the Nottingham Road, will be on your right hand side before you get to our building, which is on your left).

If you are coming by bus, all buses stop along Nottingham Road, which is just a short stroll away. The buses that stop at the end of the road are: ‘the two’ and ‘my 15’. Points of reference are KLG Rutland and Gallows Inn (both next to the canal). The street that runs alongside KLG is called Thurman Street and this quickly becomes Corporation Road, shortly after The Triangle (a green space that is the shape of a triangle). You will see our big building with its purple doors on the left hand side.
