The Workshop
Your tutor, Melinda, is looking forward to meeting you and says: “During this workshop you will make your very own tote bag to take home. All the fabrics you will need for the class will be included in the price.
The bag itself will have:
• A full lining,
• boxed corners to give it some depth,
• a slot-in interior pocket,
• plus, an optional zipped pocket.
You will be making your own handles which you will be able to make at a length to suit you.
Throughout the session you will pick up tips and techniques to enhance your sewing skills.”
If you have a sewing machine, please bring it to use, especially if you would like to gain more confidence using it. Having gained the skills during the workshop you can go home and make loads more as gifts! NB: Our Crafty Place only has 6 sewing machines at present, so, if you can bring your sewing machine that leaves 6 available for people who do not have one yet.
What is the cost?
£30 + 71p card fee. This includes all the materials needed to make your bag and refreshments during the afternoon (excluding lunch)
How many places are available?
To ensure the quality of your personal experience, the group size is limited to 12.
What are the timings?
This is a relaxed afternoon running from 1.30pm to 4pm.
Our purple front door will be open from 1pm so we can welcome you in, you can get to meet Melinda and your fellow crafters and grab a cuppa before you start.
What skills are needed?
No experience is necessary. Threading a sewing machine needle can be tricky, as you need good hand-eye skills. Using the machine pedal requires understanding of pressure through the foot. There are levers to operate. If you have purchased a machine you may already have solutions. If you haven’t got a sewing machine we can help you find ways to get to grips with any difficulties.
What to bring on the day?
Anticipation to enjoy the whole experience!
Specific to this workshop:
- It would be much appreciated if you could bring your own sewing machine and its accessories, including the needles!
- Although we will be providing materials and threads please bring any of your treasured material that you would like to upcycle. This will make your bag have two-fold memories … what the material was before and what you learnt / people you have made friends with on the workshop!
- Reading glasses if you need them.
We will be providing drinks and home-made biscuits throughout the afternoon.
We want you to go home with a spring in your step and feel really good about what you have achieved. To make sure we can thoroughly look after you during your workshop please fill in your booking form with all the things that will help, be it your favourite milk, or any extra support you may require. Please also let us know of allergies that we may need to highlight to your fellow crafters e.g. nuts, perfume. Many thanks.
