Julie uses her textile mixed media skills to explore, paint, collage and stitch, creating unique pieces of art, making a range of pieces and accessories to hang and wear.  Using vintage, new and upcycled natural fabrics, found pieces and papers giving an individual appeal to each piece.

Her stitching is by hand and freestyle machine techniques and is often combined with paint.  Other techniques include collage, paint, book and journal making.

“I am a mixed media artist using a variety of mediums. I have incorporated textiles and stitch into my art and find it a very therapeutic outlet. I completed a Fine Art Qualification in 1999. Creating art and stitch has always been interweaved in my life and during my working life of 38 years in the NHS. Stitching skills and a range of techniques have been enhanced via a stitching collective where I take part in collaborative work and have opportunities to exhibit in Scarborough and Harrogate.

I love teaching and sharing my skills and helping others gain confidence through creating. By experimenting with embroidery and mixed media textiles, my aim is to inspire and support to enable a creative stitching experience for beginners to more experienced stitchers. Plenty of individual tuition and guidance is provided as needed.”
