Our Crafty Place: A Calm, Welcoming Space to Create

Step through our purple doors and the noise and rush of the outside world instantly soften. Our indoor space has been designed to feel warm, safe and relaxing from the moment you arrive.

The Crafting Space

One end of the room is where the crafting magic happens. The restored wooden floorboards, pale wooden tables and comfy chairs along with the high ceiling and lots of windows create a bright, airy place to settle into and be creative. People have told us:

  • “I wish I’d been brave enough to come sooner; it’s lovely here.”

  • “This is the most relaxed I’ve felt in a year.”

  • “The colours are so peaceful.”

  • “I love it here.”

It’s a space that invites creativity and everyone who joins a workshop feels it.

The Relax & Refresh Area

At the other end, things get even cosier. Carpet underfoot, comfy sofas and plenty of chairs make it the perfect spot to take a breather. Help yourself to a hot drink … we offer caffeinated and decaf options, different milks, and of course … biscuits! Your wellbeing matters to us, even during your tea break.

Accessibility

Our space is wheelchair accessible, with a ramp to the front door, internal level access throughout and a toilet with good turning space and grab rails. We’re committed to improving this further. Our current setup is very “1970s” and we’re working towards modern, fully inclusive facilities, as funding allows.

Our Outdoor Courtyard (Coming Soon!)

We have plans to develop a safe, accessible courtyard that will feel just as calming as the indoor space. It’s a real suntrap … perfect for crafting outdoors when the English weather behaves. We’ll be adding a secure gate for privacy and safety, plus plenty of greenery to help you feel more connected to nature. A significant factor in choosing this venue had to be the option to go outside. Nature is crucial for everyone’s well-being. Another project to fund raise for!

Learning Opportunities and the Environment

Everyone has different learning styles, but here at Our Crafty Place, we want to make the whole environment best meet your needs.

  • The décor is relaxing and we reduce ‘visual clutter’ whenever possible. Some crafts involve many items and materials!
  • Some crafts come with certain smells, so we will reduce any further contrasting smells, open windows and give you the opportunity to move away until you feel ready to join in again.
  • Once getting ‘stuck in’ to crafting you may like to work in silence or be surrounded by sounds. We will only ever have background music / sounds if that’s what everyone wants. Quiet will always be our norm. Sometimes the excitment of crafting can make some people quite excited and chatty! The joy is infectious, but please let us know if it becomes too overwhelming.
  • Some crafts are best done standing, others seated. We have different types of chairs some that provide gentle movement (if you need to sit but need movement to keep you stimulated).

We welcome all feedback so please let us know if we are getting it right or if we can do more to make the environment better suit your learning needs. It’s important to us.

Watch This Space! We are in the process of planning a calm break‑out room … a peaceful space to pause, breathe and regulate whenever you need it.
