Crafting for Connection at Our Crafty Place
At Our Crafty Place, we believe that crafting is about more than just making beautiful things – it’s about connection, confidence, and community. Over the past few weeks, Viv and I have been busy behind the scenes meeting with a wide range of inspiring people to help shape a calendar of creative events that bring people together and make a real difference.
We’re excited to share a little peek at what’s coming up!
Craft & Chat – Evenings for Creativity and Company
Starts Wednesday 4th June | 6:00–8:00pm | £5 cash on the door or £5.33 online (includes card fee)
Launching on Wednesday 4th June, our Craft & Chat evenings will offer a relaxed, low-cost way for people to come together and unwind at the end of the day. Whether you knit, crochet or are someone who wants to switch off and be around like-minded people, this is your space.
These sessions are bring-your-own-project, and designed to be informal, social, and welcoming. It’s a lovely way to enjoy crafting with others in the community. A cuppa, a warm room, a comfy seat, and a chance to relax and share what you’re working on.
Free Community Craft Sessions – Wednesday Afternoons
Starts Wednesday 2nd July | 1:00–4:00pm | Free to attend (donation pot available)
We’re also thrilled to be launching our free weekly Community Craft Sessions, beginning Wednesday 2nd July, every Wednesday afternoon from 1–4pm.
These sessions are all about inclusion and encouragement – offering people a chance to try something they’ve always wanted to do, been told they weren’t good at, or simply couldn’t afford to try before. Whether you’re brand new to crafting or returning after a long break, you’ll find a friendly welcome here.
We’ll be offering a variety of crafts, all materials provided, along with tea, coffee, and biscuits. If you already have a project you’re working on, feel free to bring it along – it’s all about enjoying the process, not the end result.
The sessions are free to attend, and we’ll have a donation pot available for anyone who feels able to contribute towards the cost of craft materials and refreshments.
Listening to Our Community
To make sure these sessions meet real needs, we’ve been working closely with Erewash Voulentary Action and local social prescribers along with organisations like Rethink to understand where we can make the most impact.
We’re focusing especially on:
- 18–30 year olds looking for community and creativity
- Men, who are often underrepresented in craft spaces
- People who are isolated or lonely
- Those living with physical or mental health conditions
But most importantly – everyone is welcome. Our aim is to create a space that is truly inclusive, where people of all backgrounds, abilities, and experiences feel seen, valued, and supported. Whether you’re new to the area, new to crafting, or just looking for some company, you’ll find an open door and a warm welcome here.
We’re also exploring the idea of having trained volunteers available to chat during sessions, offering a listening ear as well as a creative outlet.
Watch This Space
This is just the beginning. As we continue building our timetable, we’ll be adding even more opportunities to connect, create, and care – through craft.
If you’d like to get involved, join a session, or refer someone who might benefit, please keep an eye on our [website], follow us on social media, or get in touch directly.
Together, we’re crafting something special – and everyone’s invited.
