Are you an amateur artist wanting to improve your skyscape techniques?
If so, your tutor, Jerry Smith, is looking forward to welcoming you and sharing his expert techniques for creating expressive, atmospheric skyscapes.
What You’ll Do
- Follow a structured, step-by-step process to paint a coastal skyscape
- Create a charcoal sketch to establish composition
- Develop an outline drawing and underpainting
- Mix and apply sky colours using acrylics
- Mix and apply cloud colours with attention to form and light
- After lunch, explore beach, cliff and sea elements to complete your scene

- Mark-making techniques and handling edges
- Understanding the painting process from start to finish
This Workshop is Perfect for
- Artists with some painting experience
- People looking to refine their acrylic techniques
- Anyone wanting to improve confidence in painting skies, clouds and coastal scenes
This workshop is not suitable for complete beginners. If you can confidently handle a paintbrush and understand basic acrylic techniques, you’ll be right at home.
Jerry will guide you through each step, offering demonstrations, tips and personalised support throughout the day.

- All materials needed for the workshop including:
- Acrylic paints and surfaces
- Charcoal and drawing materials
- Refreshments throughout the day (excluding lunch)
You’ll leave with your finished (time allowing), or nearly finished, coastal skyscape painting and a deeper understanding of how to create expressive skies and clouds.
What to Bring
- Reading glasses if needed
- Your lunch, or money to buy food locally
- Any acrylic painting equipment you prefer to use (optional)
Most importantly, bring your curiosity and enjoy the process.

- Arrival: From 9:30am for a warm welcome and a cuppa
- Location: Our Crafty Place
- Group size: Limited to 8 people for a friendly, supportive atmosphere
Cost
£70 + £1.32 card fee.
This reduced fee includes all the materials needed to create your skyscape painting and refreshments during the day (excluding lunch).
