The Course

This relaxed, hands-on course will guide you through the process of creating your own beautiful piece of string art, building skills and confidence week by week. You’ll learn practical techniques, experiment with patterns and colour, and finish with a completed artwork to take home.

All materials are provided, and you’ll receive a step-by-step booklet to support you throughout the course and help you continue at home if you wish.

No previous experience is needed — just a willingness to have a go and enjoy the process.

What we’ll do each week

1st Week – Getting Started & Practice

• Learn the basics of string art.

• Practise hammering nails into a wooden board using circular templates.

• Receive guidance on nail spacing, depth, and technique.

• Experiment with stringing different patterns.

• Remove the string and try alternative designs to explore what works.

• First, build confidence before starting your final piece.

2nd Week – Exploring Shape, Colour & Layers

• Work with a new board and templates.

• Try more complex designs, including multi-colour and multi-layer string art.

• Experiment with different shapes: squares, stars, and petal-style forms.

• Opportunity to paint a larger board for your final project.

3rd Week – Designing Your Final Piece

• Develop your own string art design.

• Create a paper template for your design.

• Transfer the design onto your board.

• Carefully hammer in the nails.

• Begin adding string to bring your design to life (time permitting).

4th Week – Stringing & Finishing

• Focus on stringing your final design.

• Build up colour, layers, and detail.

• Complete your finished string art piece.
