Born in 1945 Margaret lived with her mum, dad, and three older brothers. Home was the village pub The Plough Inn, Covenham Lincolnshire, one of many, as her parents were publicans. After attending seven different schools, Margaret amazingly passed the eleven plus, the only child in the village to do so that year, gaining a place at Boston Girls High School. A few years later, at Skegness Grammar School she captained the Lincolnshire Schools Girls hockey team, playing with a specially made left handed hockey stick. After leaving school in 1962 Margaret continued her education at Clarendon College Nottingham training as a shorthand typist and book keeper.
A business woman in her own right, Margaret has 3 children and 8 grandchildren, and with husband David ran the successful music shop Windblowers for 40 years, retiring in 2022. Whilst not a musician herself she helped with the formation of many successful music groups – Equinox, Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra, Nottingham Wind Ensemble, Nottingham Young Musician Of The Year, and more recently Blackwood Clarinets.
Margaret’s strong work ethic and support for local projects has been recognised many times over the years. She was presented with the Classic FM Community Music Award, The Lady Hillary Groves Prize, an annual award recognising individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to music in their community and finally the MBE in the Queens 90th Birthday Honours List 2016 for her contribution to amateur music in the East Midlands. Margaret recognises how rewarding and worthwhile Our Crafty Place will be to both the local and wider community and is delighted that her help and advice can be a part of this exciting new venture.
